Under the ‘new’ regulations, the Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations 2012.
Distributors who sell or advise end users must have, sufficient staff in their employment holding a specified certificate, available at the time of sale. Currently the accepted certificates are:
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture)
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Vegetables)
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Horticulture)
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Control)
The Killgerm BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Aluminium Phosphide for
Vertebrate Control) course for stockists is in two parts;
Day 1 – 20TH APRIL
Training course following the BASIS syllabus and using the BASIS workbook – one day (5-6hrs excluding breaks)
Day 2 – 21st APRIL
Separate independent assessment by BASIS. Approximately 4hrs. Includes an exam and a 10minute viva (Carried out by a BASIS assessor)

- Introduction
- Environment & Wildlife
- Protection of non-target species
- Recognition, biology and control of vertebrate pests
- Composition, activity and persistence of Aluminium
phosphide - Application of Aluminium phosphide used for the treatment of vertebrate pests
- Safe use, handling, transport and storage of Aluminium phosphide products used for the treatment of vertebrate pests
KILLGERM COURSE
Killgerm are able to offer the training course at their training facility in Ossett, and can organise the assessment for you.
BASIS require a minimum of 7 people per course.
The fee for Killgerm to carry out the course (Including assessment) would be £260 + VAT per person (max 12 people).
